  • Older adults who drink have an increased sensitivity to alcohol due to the fact that aging can lower the body's tolerance for alcohol, and therefore experience the effects of alcohol more readily than when they were younger.

Hospital Inpatient

Hospital inpatient services are accessible to anyone that needs to be safely managed through detox services when intensely dependent to drugs and alcohol, or who requires a better spectrum of care such as someone who has a dual diagnosis so also requires mental health services as part of their rehabilitation procedure. There are both short-term and long-term hospital inpatient services accessible.

Seniors/Older Adults

Seniors and older adults who have trouble with substance abuse may have distinctive challenges they must overcome while in rehab, which rehab specialists in the program they elect to be a part of must be keen of in order that a full recovery may be possible. So for seniors and older adults, it is wise to select a center which is accustomed to helping seniors and older adults address the unique life and drug abuse issues that these clients face which can include a broader spectrum of services including health care and so on.

Self Payment

Self Payment is required when a person's insurance isn't going to pay for the total cost of rehab or will only cover some of it. In these instances, it may appear like a drawback but people actually have a great deal of leverage because they can decide on whichever center they want without the restrictions from health insurers that so many men and women encounter. In addition, treatment centers will frequently provide payment assistance for individuals whose only option is self payment to help them get into treatment.

Medicaid

Some rehabilitation facilities accept Medicaid if the individual is not able to self pay or present some other kind of private health insurance. Medicaid might pay for outpatient and short-term rehab in a limited amount of centers, and in this case individuals may want to investigate the self pay alternative and drum up any resources they are able to to cover a more quality rehabilitation program that will get better results, such as a long-term residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation program.

Medicare

Medicare recipients can seek rehab at drug and alcohol rehab facilities which provide either inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation if the program is included in the network of Medicare-participating providers and with the consent of their Medicare appointed doctor, who must help out with establishing the person's treatment plan. Inpatient solutions are provided through Medicare Medicare Part A, with up front costs being similar to any other kind of hospital stay, and outpatient rehab being paid for through Medicare Part B.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid may be used to cover the costs of drug and alcohol rehab if other forms of insurance or self payment are not a choice. If a person doesn't have any private insurance and doesn't yet know if they could qualify for state insurance, they can consult their Social Services office in their area to figure out if they are and then fill out an application. Most state financed insurance will cover both outpatient and inpatient rehab, but usually only in the state which provides the insurance coverage.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which plan you are covered by, all private health insurance plans generally cover some type of drug rehab service including outpatient rehab to inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab centers. Individuals might have to participate in a drug and alcohol rehab facility that's within their network of providers and there might be other limitations such as the length of time their stay in treatment is covered. Individuals can select a quality center they like and consult with a rehabilitation specialist to determine if their insurance will cover it.

Military Insurance (E.G., Va, Tricare)

Military insurance which includes VA and Tricare does cover the expense of certain substance abuse treatment services. Detox services, outpatient and inpatient facilities along with partial hospitalization are all paid for by military insurance, although military members may require pre-authorization and in that case they can liaise with their VA or Tricare representative. There could be some restrictions concerning just how long a stay in inpatient drug treatment is allowed, and every one of these questions will be answered before you begin rehab so that it is clear how much time and individual can stay in the treatment facility of preference.
