Drug Addiction Facts

  • In 2012 the average age of new meth users was approximately 20 years old.
  • The increase in serotonin caused by Ecstasy which produces a high also results in a low because the drug also interferes with its synthesis which leads to a considerable depletion of serotonin. As a result, it takes the human brain a significant amount of time to rebuild the store of serotonin needed to perform important physiological and psychological functions.
  • Meth is most often abused for days on end known as a "binge", whereby users often forego sleep and food to use meth.

Self Payment

Self Payment is needed when someone's insurance isn't going to cover the total cost of rehab or will only pay for part of it. In these instances, it may appear like a drawback but people in fact have a great deal of leverage simply because they can select whichever facility they want without the restrictions from health insurance companies that so many men and women encounter. In addition, treatment programs will usually offer payment assistance for individuals whose only choice is self payment to enable them to get into treatment.

Medicaid

Certain rehab programs accept Medicaid in the event the individual is not able to self pay or present some other type of private medical health insurance. Medicaid may only cover outpatient and short-term rehab in a limited amount of programs, and in this instance individuals may want to investigate the self pay option and come up with up any resources they are able to to pay for a more quality rehabilitation facility which will get better results, say for example a long-term residential drug treatment center.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid may be used to cover the expense of drug treatment if other forms of insurance or self payment aren't a possibility. If a person doesn't have private insurance and doesn't yet know if they might qualify for state insurance, they can consult their Social Services office within their area to ascertain if they are and then apply. Most state financed insurance will cover both outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation, but typically only within the state which offers the insurance.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which program you are covered by, all private health care insurance plans generally cover some type of alcohol and drug treatment service which range from outpatient rehab to inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment facilities. Individuals may have to participate in a drug and alcohol rehab program that's within their network of providers and there can be other restrictions for example the amount of time their stay in rehab is covered. Individuals can pick an excellent program they prefer and meet with a rehabilitation counselor to find out if their insurance covers it.
