Drug Addiction Facts

  • Heroin is the most commonly cited substance in mortality cases where illicit drugs are present in Philadelphia, and in 2011 heroin/morphine was found in 32.4 percent of cases.
  • Almost 80% of the Ecstasy related emergency department visits in 2008 involved Ecstasy in combination with alcohol or other drugs, with over 30% involving Ecstasy with one other drug, 15.0 percent involving two other drugs, 14.0 percent involving three other drugs, and 17.5 percent involving four or more other drugs.
  • The increase in serotonin caused by Ecstasy which produces a high also results in a low because the drug also interferes with its synthesis which leads to a considerable depletion of serotonin. As a result, it takes the human brain a significant amount of time to rebuild the store of serotonin needed to perform important physiological and psychological functions.

Hospital Inpatient

Hospital inpatient services are available to anyone who needs to be safely managed through detox services when seriously dependent to drugs, or who requires a broader spectrum of care such as someone who is dealing with a dual diagnosis so also requires mental health solutions during their rehab procedure. You'll find both short-term and long-term hospital inpatient services available.

ASL or Other Assistance for Hearing Impaired

The hearing impaired can often be prone to alcoholism and substance abuse due to challenges that their impairment impose on them. While discovery of this issue can sometimes be difficult among the hearing impaired, you'll find ASL as well as other assistance services readily available for them when substance abuse rehabilitation is necessary. Other than ASL, such services can sometimes include assistive listening tools and captioned video materials so that deaf and hearing impaired people are getting the support they need in drug treatment.

Self Payment

Self Payment is required when someone's insurance won't cover the entire cost of rehab or will only pay for some of it. In these cases, it may appear like a drawback but people really have a much more leverage because they can choose whichever center they would like without the limitations from health insurance providers that so many men and women encounter. In addition, treatment facilities will usually provide payment assistance for individuals whose only choice is self payment to enable them to get into treatment.

Medicaid

Certain rehabilitation programs accept Medicaid in the event the individual is not able to self pay or present any other kind of private health insurance. Medicaid might pay for outpatient and short-term treatment in a limited amount of centers, and in this case individuals may wish to investigate the self pay option and drum up any resources they can to fund a more quality treatment facility which will produce better results, say for example a long-term residential alcohol and drug rehab facility.

Medicare

Medicare recipients can receive rehab at drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers which provide either inpatient or outpatient treatment when the program is in the network of Medicare-participating providers and with the authorization of their Medicare appointed doctor, who must help in establishing the individual's treatment plan. Inpatient services are provided through Medicare Medicare Part A, with out of pocket costs being just like any other kind of hospital stay, and outpatient treatment being covered through Medicare Part B.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid can be used to cover the costs of alcohol and drug rehabilitation if other kinds of insurance or self payment aren't a possibility. If a person doesn't have private insurance and doesn't yet know whether they might qualify for state insurance, they should consult their Social Services office within their area to determine if they are and then fill out an application. The majority of state financed insurance will cover both outpatient and inpatient rehab, but usually only inside the state which provides the insurance coverage.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which plan you are covered by, all private medical insurance plans generally cover some sort of alcohol and drug rehabilitation service which range from outpatient rehabilitation to inpatient or residential drug rehabilitation centers. Individuals might have to participate in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program that's inside their network of providers and there might be other limitations like just how long their stay in treatment is covered. Individuals can pick a quality program they prefer and speak with a rehabilitation counselor to ascertain if their insurance will take care of it.

Military Insurance (E.G., Va, Tricare)

Military insurance such as VA and Tricare does cover the price of certain substance abuse rehabilitation services. Detox services, outpatient and inpatient programs as well as partial hospitalization are paid for by military insurance, although military members may require pre-authorization and in that case they can liaise with their VA or Tricare representative. There can be some limitations concerning just how long a stay in inpatient alcohol and drug rehabilitation is permitted, and every one of these questions will be answered before you start treatment so that it is clear just how long and individual can stay in the treatment facility of preference.
