Medicaid

Some rehab centers will take Medicaid in the event the individual cannot self pay or present some other form of private medical health insurance. Medicaid may only pay for outpatient and short-term rehab inside a limited amount of facilities, and in this case individuals may wish to explore the self pay alternative and drum up any resources they can to fund a more quality treatment facility that will get better results, such as a long-term residential drug treatment program.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid may be used to cover the expense of drug and alcohol rehab if other kinds of insurance or self payment are not a possibility. If someone does not have any private insurance and doesn't yet know whether they may be eligible for state insurance, they should seek advice from their Social Services office within their area to ascertain if they are and then fill out an application. Most state financed insurance will handle both outpatient and inpatient rehab, but generally only inside the state which offers the insurance.
