Drug Addiction Facts

  • Alcohol binge drinkers are 14 times more likely to report alcohol-impaired driving than non-binge drinkers.
  • Codeine overdose can cause respiratory depression and other severe adverse reactions including heart failure, heart attack, pulmonary failure, liver or kidney failure, jaundice, amnesia, seizures, blackouts, and coma.
  • Animal studies indicate that animals will work more persistently at pressing a bar for cocaine than for any other drug, including opiates. In one example, one monkey test subject pressed the bar 12,800 times until it got a single dose of cocaine. If the animal survives in such studies, it will return to the task of obtaining more cocaine.

Hospital Inpatient

Hospital inpatient services are accessible to anyone that must be safely managed through detoxification services when intensely addicted to drugs and alcohol, or who wants a broader spectrum of care such as somebody who is dealing with a dual diagnosis and also requires mental health services as part of their rehabilitation procedure. You can find both short-term and long-term hospital inpatient services accessible.

ASL or Other Assistance for Hearing Impaired

The hearing impaired are often predisposed to alcoholism and substance abuse due to problems their impairment impose on them. While detection of this issue can sometimes be hard among the hearing impaired, you can find ASL and other assistance services intended for them when substance abuse treatment is required. Apart from ASL, such services might include assistive listening tools and captioned video materials to ensure that deaf and hearing impaired folks are getting the help they need in alcohol and drug rehab.

Spanish

Not all drug and alcohol treatment programs possess the staff or wherewithal to cater to the needs of Spanish speaking clientele, but luckily there are more and more facilities that will do so because the need for Spanish services is higher than previously. Therapy, study information and the like are now very often available in Spanish in both short and long terms centers which provide inpatient or residential rehab and outpatient Spanish treatment is available too around the country.

Self Payment

Self Payment is needed when a person's insurance won't cover the entire cost of rehab or will only pay for part of it. In these cases, it may appear like a disadvantage but individuals in fact have a great deal of leverage because they can select whichever facility they want without the restrictions from health insurance providers that so many men and women encounter. Likewise, rehab centers will often offer payment assistance for people whose only option is self payment to enable them to get into treatment.

Medicaid

Some treatment centers accept Medicaid in the event the individual is unable to self pay or present another type of private medical insurance. Medicaid may only cover outpatient and short-term rehab within a limited amount of programs, and in cases like this individuals might want to explore the self pay option and drum up any resources they can to pay for a more quality rehabilitation center that will get better results, say for example a long-term residential drug treatment center.

Medicare

Medicare recipients can seek rehabilitation at alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers which deliver either inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation if the center is included in the network of Medicare-participating providers and with the consent of their Medicare appointed physician, who must help out with setting up the individual's rehabilitation plan. Inpatient services are covered through Medicare Part A, with up front costs being the same as any other type of hospital stay, and outpatient rehab being covered through Medicare Part B.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid may be used to cover the expense of alcohol and drug rehabilitation if other forms of insurance or self payment aren't a choice. If someone has no private insurance and doesn't yet know if they could be eligible for state insurance, they should check with their Social Services office in their area to ascertain if they are and then fill out an application. Most state financed insurance will cover both outpatient and inpatient rehab, but usually only inside the state which offers the insurance.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which program you are covered by, all private health care insurance plans typically cover some type of alcohol and drug rehabilitation service which range from outpatient treatment to inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers. Individuals could have to participate in an alcohol and drug treatment facility which is inside their network of providers and there could be other restrictions for example the length of time their stay in treatment is covered. Individuals can choose an excellent program they prefer and consult with a treatment specialist to ascertain if their insurance will take care of it.

Military Insurance (E.G., Va, Tricare)

Military insurance including VA and Tricare does cover the costs of certain substance abuse rehabilitation services. Detoxification services, outpatient and inpatient centers in addition to partial hospitalization are covered by military insurance, although military members may need pre-authorization and in that case they can speak with their VA or Tricare representative. There might be some restrictions as to how long a stay in inpatient alcohol and drug rehabilitation is permitted, and every one of these questions will be answered prior to starting rehab so that it's clear the length of time and individual can remain in the rehab program of choice.
