Persons With Co-Occurring Mental And Substance Abuse Disorders

Individuals with co-occurring mental and drug use issues are what are known in the field of drug and alcohol rehabilitation as dual diagnosis clients. These individuals must handle both disorders whilst in rehab to find resolution due to the fact one usually triggers the other. Fortunately, there are several alcohol and drug treatment programs who can specifically address the challenges that persons with co-occurring mental and substance abuse issues face so that they can not simply become abstinent but mentally secure and also able to lead a much better quality lifestyle and not wish to self medicate with alcohol and drugs.

Medicaid

Certain rehabilitation programs accept Medicaid in the event the individual is not able to self pay or present some other form of private health insurance. Medicaid may only cover outpatient and short-term treatment in a limited amount of programs, and in this instance individuals may choose to explore the self pay alternative and drum up any resources they are able to to pay for a more quality treatment facility that will get better results, such as a long-term residential drug and alcohol rehab center.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid may be used to cover the expense of drug rehabilitation if other forms of insurance or self payment aren't an option. When someone does not have any private insurance and doesn't yet know if they might be eligible for state insurance, they should seek advice from their Social Services office within their area to ascertain if they are and then apply. Most state financed insurance will take care of both outpatient and inpatient treatment, but generally only within the state which provides the insurance.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which plan you are covered by, all private health insurance plans generally cover some sort of alcohol and drug treatment service which range from outpatient rehabilitation to inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment centers. Individuals may have to participate in a drug treatment center that is in their network of providers and there can be other limitations such as the length of time their stay in rehab is covered. Individuals can select a good program they prefer and consult with a rehabilitation specialist to ascertain if their insurance covers it.

Military Insurance (E.G., Va, Tricare)

Military insurance such as VA and Tricare does cover the expense of certain drug abuse rehabilitation services. Detoxification services, outpatient and inpatient facilities along with partial hospitalization are all paid for by military insurance, although military members may need pre-authorization and in that case they can liaise with their VA or Tricare representative. There could be some limitations about just how long a stay in inpatient drug rehab is permitted, and every one of these questions can be answered before you begin rehabilitation so that it is clear how long and individual can remain in the rehab facility of preference.
