Self Payment

Self Payment is needed when a person's insurance won't pay for the entire cost of rehabilitation or will only cover some of it. In these instances, it may seem like a drawback but people in fact have a much more leverage because they can choose whichever facility they want without the restrictions from health insurance companies that so many individuals encounter. Likewise, rehabilitation programs will frequently offer payment assistance for people whose only choice is self payment to help them get into rehab.

Medicaid

Some rehab programs accept Medicaid when the individual is not able to self pay or present some other kind of private medical insurance. Medicaid may possibly pay for outpatient and short-term treatment within a limited amount of programs, and in such cases individuals may want to explore the self pay option and drum up any resources they are able to to fund a more quality treatment program which will produce better results, such as a long-term residential drug rehabilitation center.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid can be used to cover the expense of drug and alcohol rehabilitation if other forms of insurance or self payment are not a possibility. When someone has no private insurance and doesn't yet know if they may be eligible for state insurance, they should seek advice from their Social Services office in their area to ascertain if they are and then fill out an application. The majority of state financed insurance will cover both outpatient and inpatient treatment, but typically only in the state which offers the insurance.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which plan you are covered by, all private health insurance plans generally cover some sort of alcohol and drug rehab service including outpatient treatment to inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment programs. Individuals might have to participate in an alcohol and drug rehab center that's inside their network of providers and there could be other limitations such as just how long their stay in rehab is covered. Individuals can select a quality program they like and speak with a rehab counselor to determine if their insurance will handle it.

Military Insurance (E.G., Va, Tricare)

Military insurance which includes VA and Tricare does cover the expenses of certain drug abuse rehab services. Detox services, outpatient and inpatient facilities in addition to partial hospitalization are all covered by military insurance, although military members may require pre-authorization and in that case they can liaise with their VA or Tricare consultant. There may be some limitations about how much time a stay in inpatient drug and alcohol treatment is allowed, and every one of these questions will be answered before beginning rehab so that it's clear just how long and individual can stay in the treatment center of preference.
