Self Payment

Self Payment is necessary when someone's insurance won't pay for the entire cost of rehabilitation or will only cover part of it. In these situations, it may appear like a disadvantage but individuals really have a much more leverage because they can decide on whichever facility they want without the restrictions from health insurance providers that so many men and women face. Medicare

Medicare recipients can seek treatment at alcohol and drug rehab programs which deliver either inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation if the center is included in the network of Medicare-participating providers and with the consent of their Medicare appointed physician, who must assist in setting up the person's rehab plan. Inpatient solutions are covered through Medicare Medicare Part A, with up front costs being just like any other type of hospital stay, and outpatient rehabilitation being paid for through Medicare Part B.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid may be used to cover the expense of alcohol and drug treatment if other forms of insurance or self payment aren't a possibility. When someone does not have any private insurance and doesn't yet know whether they may qualify for state insurance, they should seek advice from their Social Services office within their area to determine if they are and then fill out an application. Most state financed insurance will cover both outpatient and inpatient rehab, but typically only inside the state which provides the insurance plan.

Private Health Insurance
